What’s your motivation?

Training for reigning in physical endeavors throughout our time on the earth

1 Timothy 4:1-8
— “ . . . For physical training is of some value (useful for a little), but godliness
(spiritual training) is useful and of value in everything and in every way, for it
holds promise for the present life and also for the life which is to come.”

Define Godliness
— Holiness
– consecrated; devoted; set apart (1 Peter 1:13-16)
— Righteousness
– in right standing with; justified by faith (Romans 3:20-22)

Training for Godliness
How does Godliness pertain to the treatment and use of our physical bodies?
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
— “Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the
Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from
God? You are not your own, you were bought with a price [purchased with a
preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to
Him in your body.”
* the dwelling place of H.S.
– the empty box made available for the purpose of housing the H.S.
* H.S. is our gift from God (James 1:17)
– in God’s creation of man, He could have left us empty, but He chose to give
us reasoning faculties; with these reasoning faculties, we can chose to allow
God to inform us of exactly how we are to use this empty box (accepting the
gift of H.S.) or we can go it alone and be persuaded by false doctrine.
* purchase price = preciousness (valuable)
* honor and glory God {IN} your body
– holiness – “Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of
the Holy Spirit . . . You are not your own . . .”

Romans 12:1
— “I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies
of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your
members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well
pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and
spiritual worship.”
* ‘decisive’ means not double-minded (tossed to and fro by every wind of
doctrine and scheme)
* ‘dedication of your body’ means the totality of your earth suit, mind, soul, and
spirit
– righteousness – “I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all]
the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all
your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice . . .”

?? What is the importance of physical exercise?
To be ready at all times to give account of the hope to which you were called (Ephesians 1:18, 2 Timothy 4:2)
— External
– Strength
– Stamina (endurance/energy levels)
– Flexibility
– Sleep
— Internal
– Cleansing
– Renewing

Reigning in Godliness
How can we be properly motivated with respect to the treatment and use of our physical
body?
Galatians 5:22-23
— “But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within
accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper,
forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, gentleness
(meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things
there is no law [that can bring a charge].
** W.O.W. – The evidence of the Holy Spirit’s presence within the human spirit
are acts orchestrated by the following standard of measurement. Every act of the
person possessing a spirit that is guided by the Holy Spirit is: motivated by love,
results in joy, brings peace, carried out in patience, demonstrates kindness,
shows goodness, exhibits faithfulness, accomplished with gentleness, and an
operation of self-control. Actions held to this standard cannot be condemned
by the righteous judge.

Many have been influenced by the false premise that outside forces are proper motivating
factors.
– The motivation to begin a routine of placing the physical body into submission
of any sort must begin with God (1 John 4:8).
– the Holy Spirit alive inside of us tells us when, where, how, and why.
– Outside forces such as family and friends are greatly desired reinforcements,
even societal interactions can be encouraging, but beware of these same
forces that may hinder your Christ-centered mindset.

God is the only true motivation and, when you decide to undertake a new routine, use
Galatians 5:22-23 to tell you when to begin, how it is to be done, and what season
you are in.

Proverbs 31:17
— “She girds herself with strength [spiritual, mental, and physical fitness for her
God-given task] and makes her arms strong and firm.”
* specific to {HER} purpose in life

Not everybody’s purpose in life is the same, so not everybody needs to accomplish the
same fitness goals. However, everybody has a level of fitness they must pursue in
order to succeed in their God-given task.
